The very first event write-up on this website was of the 2021 Annual General Meeting. How time flies, allowing us to come full circle to yet another AGM where a new committee would be elected to serve the Malaysian community in Manchester.

The positions opened for election were that of the events coordinators, welfare officer, media officer, publicity secretary, and sports officers; by the end of the day, all positions were filled. Two motions were also passed: (1) the official election of the production officer, and (2) amendment of Article 15 in MSSM’s constitution for clarification of job scopes for each position. This year’s AGM was also spiced up with nasi lemak as refreshments for our attendees.
I, the 2021/22 Publicity Secretary, write this with a heavy heart. The 2021/22 MSSM committee has collectively committed to the missions and visions of this society for a year; some, even longer. Giving a full year to believe in a purpose and needing to say goodbye is not an easy feat; perhaps this would be the hardest challenge all of us have to overcome, harder than pulling off a flagship event.
In our tenure, we have held 31 meetings to strategise how we can better serve our home away from home. Through continuing the work of the committees that came before us and introducing new initiatives, we held 17 events and 3 flagships, each and every last one planned with our community in mind. This committee has not suffered from a shortage of obstacles and disagreements; between reigniting flagships post-pandemic and working with new parties, every committee member’s perseverance and willingness to learn from each other is what resulted in the achievements we claim together.

I believe I speak on behalf of the outgoing committee when I say we wish we could have carried on working with each other to give back to the community that has never stopped pushing us to become better versions of ourselves. I believe all of us will echo when I also say that we have high hopes and absolute confidence that the new committee will ascend to greater heights and steer MSSM toward brighter tomorrows.
To Amanda, Yan Jia, Ally, Dexter, Sherry, Julian, Ten Ren, Hong Bin, Rafik, Rachel C., Rachel N., Jie Hao, Adriana (and myself, Cheng Jie), we did good. We gave the society all we could and we can proudly sign off with no regrets. Well, except Jie Hao, Sherry, Ten Ren, and Julian who will take up the Top 5 positions alongside Min Shiuan for yet another tenure. To the five of them, Yashodini, Goy, Jia Jing, Ku Adriana, Denise, Danish, Kian Jun, Natalie, Chelsea, and Darshana, congratulations! Being able to serve your community is a great honour; carry on the legacy that has been left to you, have grit, and believe in yourself.
