Building on our successful SEA-Night last academic year, we decided to expand our horizon from ASEAN to Asia. Asian Night 2023, spearheaded by our society in collaboration with the Indonesia Students in Greater Manchester (PPIGM), Thai Society of Manchester (TSM), BruManch Society, Sri Lankan Society and Pakistan Society is an event to showcase the unique heritage to the attendees.

Booths were set up to display the traditional food and games of different societies. People proudly donning their traditional wear which was unique in their own way of setting the right tone for the event. Music from different countries was played in the background, making attendees feel at home, away from home. From our side, we prepared Nasi Tomato and Kuih which were given for free to those who visited our booth. Traditional games like Congkak and Sepak Takraw were prepared for people to showcase their skills and also for newcomers to learn them. Even for the experienced, juggling Takraw ball wearing Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung proved to be a challenge with the constant afterthought of not wanting to rip a hole in your traditional outfit.

We hope that this event will be the foundation for more collaboration in the future with the different societies. Meaningful friendships were fostered with people from different backgrounds and MSSM looks forward to organising events of similar nature in the future.
