As the Manchester sun stretched its rays, coaches from all corners of the UK rolled into the heart of the city. Ah, yes, that time of the year had arrived again – Manchester MGames. For Malaysians, nothing brings us together quite like the thrill of sports (well, maybe except for food). Whether it’s huddled around the screen for the Champions League Finals or cheering on our badminton heroes in the Olympics, families always found a way to gather and share those sporting moments. But this time, it’s a whole new ball game – literally. We aren’t just spectators; we’re players now! Let the games begin!
In the early morning, the familiar Malaysian accents were echoing throughout the entirety of the Sugden and Trinity Sports Centre as Malaysians from London to Edinburgh made their way through the venue. This year’s fixtures were packed with different sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Frisbee, Netball, Football and Badminton.

Every MGames has a recurring game, fierce competition between participants. No one was giving mercy as they made a sincere attempt in proudly bringing a medal back to their home city while obviously maintaining sportsmanship.

Besides the main event, many local Malaysian food vendors were set up right outside Trinity Sports Centre to allow us a comforting taste of home options such as nasi lemak, karipap, maggi goreng mamak, and all in between! Writing this made me hungry… As the clock ticked, each category gradually crowned their champions and all left the event space with large smiles.
