On 20 October 2024, the Malaysian Students Society successfully organized Ohana Berbonding 2024, a heartwarming and dynamic event designed to connect incoming freshers with their seniors. Taking place from 1:30pm to 4:30 pm, the approach of the event was to pair seniors (Parents) with freshers (Children) into small family units, the event aimed to foster meaningful relationships while ensuring participants had an unforgettable time.

This initiative not only brought smiles and laughter to everyone involved but also strengthened the fabric of MSSM. By providing a platform for mentorship and camaraderie, the event contributed to building a more inclusive and supportive environment for students navigating the challenges of university life abroad. Freshers, often overwhelmed by the transition to university, found a safe and welcoming space where they could connect with peers and gain insights from seniors with shared academic paths. Seniors, in turn, found fulfillment in sharing their knowledge and advice, taking pride in guiding the next generation of students.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in a series of fun and competitive challenges designed to encourage teamwork and creativity. The skill showcase was a particularly memorable highlight, as participants amazed their families and the audience with diverse talents. From soulful singing performances to quirky juggling routines, each act drew enthusiastic applause, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and joy.

Another standout moment was the family photo challenge, where creativity and collaboration were on full display. Families worked together to produce heartwarming and often hilarious snapshots that perfectly captured their shared energy and team spirit. These photos became cherished keepsakes of the event, reflecting the bonds that were built during the day.

The feedback from participants further highlighted the success of the event. Freshers shared how the event helped ease their anxieties about starting university and gave them a sense of belonging within the community. Many commented on how the challenges served as excellent icebreakers, allowing them to meet new people in an engaging and non-intimidating way. Seniors also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the community, finding joy in fostering connections with their juniors.

Beyond the games and laughter, the event reinforces the Malaysian Students Society’s role as a cornerstone of support for its members. The event’s emphasis on connection, mentorship, and shared experiences served as a reminder of the strength and resilience that comes from a united community.
