On 4 May 2025, MSSM held its Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) — a pivotal event that marked an exciting new chapter for the society. From 1PM to 5PM, members gathered to discuss constitutional updates, review motions, and elect the Shadow Top 5, who will officially take over as the new leadership team at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Originally scheduled at the Samuel Alexander Building, the event had to be relocated last-minute to the Students’ Union due to unforeseen circumstances. Thanks to the swift and decisive leadership of the current Top 5, the transition was seamless, and the meeting continued without major delay — a true testament to teamwork and adaptability. ⚡

The OGM opened with a series of motions proposed by members to strengthen and modernize the MSSM constitution:

  1. Incorporating the new MNight Constitution under MSSM’s governance.
  2. Updating the Events Coordinator role to include responsibility for MSSM’s inventory and assets.
  3. Creating a new position — Assistant General Secretary to better support administrative duties.
  4. Amending voting rights, reducing committee votes from two to one, ensuring fairer representation and more power to general members in key decisions.

Following the discussions, members cast their votes in the Shadow Top 5 elections — the next generation of MSSM leadership. The results were as follows:

  • Shadow President – Max Ng
  • Shadow Vice President – Aviennash Kannan
  • Shadow General Secretary – Hannah Hamidon
  • Shadow Treasurer – Muhammad Arshad Bin Abdul Malik
  • Shadow Sponsorship Director – Umar Fazlan

While elections for President, Vice President, and Sponsorship Director proceeded smoothly, the General Secretary and Treasurer positions initially went to Re-Open Nominations (RON). This led to an internal evaluation process that resulted in the appointment of Hannah Hamidon as General Secretary and, after further interviews, Muhammad Arshad as Treasurer — both recognized for their commitment, capability, and alignment with MSSM’s vision.

The meeting concluded on a high note, celebrating transparency, collaboration, and the society’s continued growth. The newly elected Shadow Top 5 now stand ready to carry forward MSSM’s legacy, ensuring a bright and united year ahead. 🌟🇲🇾
