1. What banks are there to choose from?
• There are a few UK high street banks: Barclays, NatWest, Santander, Lloyds and HSBC.
• For international students, there are limited banks that offer students accounts.
• Barclays, Lloyds and HSBC are the easiest and most convenient for students studying in Manchester as it is located at the easily accessible Market Street.
• Furthermore, there are virtual banks as well, which are banks that offer banking services through electronic channels: Starling, Monzo and Revolut.
• It is easier to have a high street bank and virtual bank to track your spending.
• Virtual banks are also useful as they offer real exchange rates when you travel overseas!

2. Which bank should I choose from?
• Popular among students are Barclays, Lloyds or HSBC. They are located near the university campus in Manchester Market Street, approximately 25-minutes walking distance.
• From what we have gathered from our students, Lloyds has the best customer service but the app looks a bit dodgy. On the other hand, the Barclays app looks sleeker. All in all, it depends on your preference!
• Psttt, having a high street bank is easier for overseas transactions!
• Some banks require appointments prior to opening an account, so make your appointments as soon as you arrive in the city! Check with your bank to ensure the most time-efficient route in opening your bank account. Barclays requires sending a posted letter to get an appointment code, whereas Lloyds allows walk-ins.
