1. Any recommendations on commuting around the city and maybe intercity (e.g. certain bus / train ticket packages)?
• The university and city centre are highly walkable, but if you travel frequently, we recommend purchasing an annual bus pass from Stagecoach (search for ‘Manchester Annual UniRider’); it costs £330 and is valid from September 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. You can also find more information about the areas covered by the bus pass on their website.
• Check out different bus passes via our Freshers Booklet.
• If you want to travel around the UK, get a Railcard! A one-year validity costs £30 and three years cost £70. A Railcard can save you up to 1/3 off most train fares. It is recommended that you download the Trainline app, which allows you to purchase tickets and store your railcard. Tip: Sometimes there are promotions on holidays; you could get the Railcard for 50% on Black Friday!

2. What is the most cost-efficient way to travel around Manchester?
• Manchester is small, so walking will serve you just fine!
• If you’re an avid biker, there are bikes available for rent throughout the city. Simply download the Beryl app to unlock the bikes and pay as you ride. The bikes cost £1 to unlock, then 5p per minute of riding. More information is available on the Beryl website.
• You can also take the tram or bus if you’re not keen on either biking or walking.
