On 9 May 2026, MSSM held its Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) at Samuel Alexander, bringing members together for an important day of discussions, constitutional debates, and elections for the incoming Shadow Top 5 committee. The event ran from morning until evening and reflected MSSM’s continued commitment to transparency, leadership, and community involvement.

The OGM began with a recap of MSSM’s achievements throughout the 2025/2026 term, including over 20 events ranging from small social gatherings to large flagship events. Members were also presented with the society’s secretarial and financial reports before moving into the motion debates

The series of motions proposed by members to strengthen and modernize the MSSM constitution are as follows:

  1. Introducing a formal amendment procedure for motions during General Meetings to improve efficiency and collaboration.
  2. Defining the classifications and procedures for AGM, OGM, and EGM sessions, while allowing members to call for an EGM under certain conditions.
  3. Conducting constitutional housekeeping amendments to improve formatting, consistency, and clarity across MSSM and MCR MNight constitutions.
  4. Formally recognising the Vice President and General Secretary as Producers of MCR MNight.
  5. Revising the MSSM Welfare Officer’s role to oversee and advise MNight welfare operations rather than directly managing them.
  6. Strengthening MCR MNight’s financial accountability through improved financial systems and monthly reviews.
  7. Expanding the Sponsorship Director’s role to oversee sponsor engagement events and MSSM Careers initiatives.

Following the debates, members voted for the incoming Shadow Top 5 leadership team through a series of speeches, Q&A sessions, and live voting rounds. The newly elected committee members were Qian Tong Phang (Kellie) as President, Ashley Ann Mathews as Vice President, Shing Hui Wong as General Secretary, and Kishman Raj Saravanan as Sponsorship Director.

The Treasurer position went to Re-Open Nominations (RON). This led to an internal evaluation process that resulted in the appointment of Daniel Ramzi Tan Jian Hung as Treasurer. The meeting ended with a photography session and celebrations, marking the start of a new chapter for MSSM and its future leadership team. 🗳️🎤
